UPS to Close Stockton Hub Amid Restructuring
Economic Pressures Prompt Workforce and Facility Cuts

United Parcel Service (UPS) will close its Stockton, California hub on May 29, 2025, as part of a companywide restructuring, according to The Stockton Record. This follows UPS’s announcement of a 20,000-employee workforce reduction and the closure of 73 U.S. facilities by June, driven by economic challenges and looming tariffs.
The Stockton closure aligns with UPS’s strategy to optimize its network and boost efficiency while maintaining customer service, said spokesperson Becca Hunnicutt. The company reported a revenue drop to $21.5 billion in Q1 2025 from $21.7 billion the prior year. UPS is working to reassign affected Stockton employees, with operations shifting to the nearby Lathrop hub.
These changes reflect broader economic concerns, including President Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs impacting global trade. With 490,000 employees globally in 2024, UPS’s cost-cutting measures signal a cautious approach to an uncertain future, affecting communities like Stockton where local jobs are at risk.
